cover letter for a scientific paper

Dear Forum-members,

I am writing a "cover letter" for a scientific journal which should accompany my article.
The cover must be formal and the target are academic people.

Is it possible to have a short text revision?

Thank you very much for any help.

Alex

PS: the words "microstructure/microstructural" are accepted in my scientific community.

"To the Editorial Board of [Journal],

We herewith would like to submit our paper "[Paper Title]" to your highly respected journal.
The present contribution is devoted to the microstructural characterization of plasma-sprayed tungsten, an excellent example of difficult-to-image microstructure, requiring a three dimensional imaging approach.
The reported results originate from an experimental campaign at the beamline ID-19 of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility whose aim was to test the imaging capability of X-ray microtomography on high density tungsten microstructures. A dedicated paper devoted to the optical setup optimization is under revision by Material Characterization.

As different from the overall picture we obtained previously from scanning electron microscopy, microtomography revealed that the globular pores in plasma-sprayed tungsten are largely 3D-interconnected and percolating. This finding may be of interest for material scientists active in the field of thermal barrier coatings, plasma-sprayed coatings, tungsten materials and microtomographic characterization.

Future improvements aiming at nanoscale resolution are under development, nonetheless the present results represent the state of the art in microtomography of porous tungsten and we believe they are mature for a short communication by your journal.

Yours sincerely,

It needs to be simplified a bit, and the sycophantic elements discarded at the beginning; it is just a cover letter. I have also fixed the punctuation. To the Editorial Board of [ Journal ], We are herewith submitting our paper "[Paper Title]" to your journal.
