Essay & Composition Writing

Cover letter Erasmus programme..

Hi everyone! Is there somebody willing to give me an advice about my cover letter? I'm Italian and I'm worried to have used ways to express typical of Italian language.. It would be very kind of you!!!

Dear admission officers,

I am writing to apply for the Erasmus student exchange programme for the 2014-2015 academic year.

First of all I would like to introduce myself. I was 13 when I decided that I wanted to spend my life travelling around the world, so I went to a Language High School. I joined to this personal need the fact that I like arts, design, architecture and every mean of personal expression, and I enrolled in Interior Design for my Bachelor Degree. What I was more attracted to was the set-up of exhibitions and museums and the fascinating personality of the artists-designers. Once graduated, I worked in the field of Interior Design and communication. I liked it and I learnt a lot of organizational skills, but I felt something was missing. I lived in Paris for a summer, spending all the time visiting museums, and I came back to Milan with clear ideas: I had to add theoretical contents to my skills in projecting environments to have a satisfying tailor-made study plan. I found in the figure of the curator what I wanted to do in my future, organizing exhibitions, investigating the world of art and design and writing about them: I am attending the first year of “__” Master Degree in the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan.

To become a curator, I will have to be able to shift from different cultures and find links. Besides, English will be a must for me. An intercultural exchange would not only be fundamental for my professional future, it would also be fantastic for my personal development. I would be happy to share the Erasmus experience with people coming from all over the world and learn from each other.

I am fascinated by Northern Europe and it is where people give more importance to culture. Here, everything runs as it has to do and people speak English fluently.

My first choice, for these reasons, is the __, where I am sure to achieve a very good level in English and where the cultural offer is wide. I read about the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle, all the museums and galleries in the city and the partnerships that the university has with these institutions: I really hope to go and live from the inside this cultural system. And London is just 2 hours train, just to be sure not to lose any important event.
For the educational offer, I am attracted by the fact that there are a lot of courses focused on curatorship, museology and museum management, aimed to teach this profession with close contact with professionals and by practical application. The essays required as assessment are a new and challenging way for me to attend university and I believe it will be worthwhile to write, in English, about a topic that I like.
To arrive to this choice, there were a lot of positive reflections about Leeds and the Yorkshire. I love Anglo-Saxon culture and when I studied English literature during high school, I could only dream of spending a whole year in the green lands where Mr. Darcy lived. And now it is a bit more real…

My second choice is __. The head of the Theory and Communication Department is Professor Carsten Juhl, who studied in Italy and publics essays about Italy: this double intercultural exchange is interesting and I am sure it has something to do with the international approach of the Academy.
Here, too, the assessments are based on essays, which challenges and attracts me.
One of the reasons why I like Northern Europe is the people’s sense of civic duty; about Copenhagen I can happily add the respect for nature and the widespread use of bicycles. And the love for design, of course, which goes in the direction of my tailored study-plan.

My third choice is __. The Master’s degree in “Visual Culture and Contemporary Art, Curating, Managing and Mediating Art”, offered by this school, is what I am attending in Milan, with the added value of a new point of view on these topics, in an environment openly focused on contemporary art. The school is well organized and pays a lot of attention to the integration of foreign students, which I consider very important.
The Helsinki Festival and “The Night of Arts” let me understand even better how much they prize culture.

I would be very grateful if you consider my application. I believe to be the right subject because I am a strongly determinate student, who loves international exchanges and who is not worried about living away from home. I am sure that the Erasmus programme would be enriching and very important for me, I wish this experience very strongly and I would make it precious.

Thank you for your attention.
Yours faithfully,
