Cover letter - Erasmus

Hi! This forum is amazing!

Please can someone check my cover letter for Erasmus program? I don´t know in which country I will study so it is not mentioned there. Please, I will be so grateful!

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to apply for the Erasmus Program at one of the partner universities in a school year 2013/2014.

I am currently studying third year in Bachelor’s Degree program in Law at the XY University in YX, XY and I am going to reach my bachelorship in spring semester 2013. In the following letter I will explain why I have chosen the Erasmus program.

Since the beginning of my studies at the University I wanted to spend one or two semesters in another country and when I found out that there is a possibility to participate in Erasmus program, I considered it as a great opportunity for me which can strongly enrich my future studies and help me in my prospective career.
I study English from childhood, I graduated from a high school with specialization on languages and I attended many language courses. Therefore I can speak English and French. I already passed five semesters in which I always had a subject taught in legal English (also specialized subject called Proceeding before Court of Justice of European Union). Spending a time abroad is a chance to get even more familiar with English in academic level and learn another language at the same time, because in my opinion, today the knowledge of two languages is not enough. This will be very helpful for me, mainly because I considerate doing an LLM degree abroad, after finishing Mastership studies at Comenius University). I am also planning to pass TOEFL/IELTS certificate after I return.

As a citizen of European Union and a law student I am very interested in legal systems of others member states, mainly because I assume that the integration of the EU will continue and legal systems of all countries will be more and more close to each other. I hope that my stay will broaden my horizons in the area of law and justice. Because I am interested in this problematic I already attend a class at which we discuss the problematic parts between member states constitutions and treaties of the EU.

Another reason why I want to participate in program is that studying at the University in another country is a great occasion to become independent, learn how to take care of myself and meet people from all around the world I would normally never have the chance to meet and stay in touch with them as well after return, perhaps also in professional life.

Getting to know different cultures, habits and learning their languages has always been my area of interest. This semester would also offer me the opportunity to discover another way of thinking and working and to experience another teaching system and lifestyle. I am open to try new things and not afraid of living in a whole new environment.
