Course and implications

As we known, English is spoken in many countries and used as international communication throughout the world. The number of people who learn English has increased dramatically. Therefore, it's clear that, nowadays, English plays a vital role in our life. For this reason, I chose English Study as my major. After this first course, I have gained a wealth of knowledge about my major and its implications for my life.

First of all, I learned some specific terms. Linguistics is the scientific study of language. It has been investigated for many centuries. Through this study, we will learn how to think critically as well as learn deeply a language. For instance, when we read a word, we will know how it is formed and how to use it exactly. Therefore, linguistics is necessary for us. Cultural Studies is also a significant subject. It is a field of cultural analysis. Language shapes the way we think and effects on how we solve a problem. Language interacts with culture; therefore, culture can be investigated through linguistics. It makes us understand human behaviors and deep-seated cultural belief. Both of them study just small aspects of this major.

Secondly, I trained some practical skills. Working in group can help students develop a host of skills that are important in real life. It can reinforce skills that are relevant to both group and individual work. Leadership and good team-working contributed to my strength. I studied how to plan and manage time to complete projects efficiently. Timekeeping is more important to me than ever before. I can make presentations in English fluently and confidently. In other words, I developed my rhetoric skill. Critical thinking and analytical skills are my two other advantages.

Finally, we need consider the wider implications of this course as well as English for our lives. If I master English, I will have plenty of opportunities to widen my experience. Language is no longer my barrier to make my dreams come true. In term of a job, I can get higher salary and promote faster. I can travel to my dream destinations around the world. Above all, I can study abroad, apply to prestigious universities in the world and win scholarship even. It would be a golden opportunity to me to learn from top professors as well as meet outstanding students all around the world. Moreover, scientists proved many benefits of being bilingual. Speaking more than one language makes you more open-minded. It also has positive effects on the brain. In addition, I can become global citizen. I can attend to international meetings and events in order to solve world problems such as discrimination, famine or disease. We go to great lengths together to make the world better. In the nutshell, English became a part of my life.

To sum up, this course is the first important step of this major. I gained practical knowledge and how to apply English into real life creatively. Believe it or not, English helps me to break through my self-imposed limits.
