Countries are becoming more and more similar because people are able to buy the same products anywhere in the world. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

As a consequence of globalization, nations now have more chances to compete with each other as well as having fewer differences. From my perspectives, although this is certainly valuable, we must also acknowledge the negative influences it has on local cultures.

On the one hand, the impetus of a new world order and globalization has brought to us a myriad of benefits which result from the similarities among countries such as the EU or the British common wealth. Firstly, this phenomenon has not only created a fair playground but also reduced the number of conflicts happened all over the world. This is proved because the more we understand other cultures, the more we comprehend and be willing to cooperate. For instance take America as a good illustration, a country that has great influence because of its multicultural strength. If Americans had not abolished racism, they would not have many cultural values, which then in result contributed to a cross-cultural wave and decreased contrariety. Secondly, local residents can have a more convenient lifestyle. It is the fact that people can now purchase most of the items from abroad at home due to the branches of international corporations in their countries and therefore, they will not have to travel for a long distance.

On the other hand, actually similarities among countries could have some significant drawbacks. One of these is the lost of important values in local nations. Undeniably, dominant countries like the US or China will spread their cultures dramatically while non-dominant ones like Vietnam can be completely assimilated. For example in Vietnam, young generations who are affected deeply by Hollywood and Korean stars now do not respect traditional films and music. Furthermore, the cultural diversity of the world, more or less will decline. Because of cultural hybridization and exoticism, some lifestyles or traditions will be much more appreciated than others. Therefore, if late generations do not preserve their culture from the flattening and assimilation of the world, they will no longer exist, leading to a big lost in the history of our mankind.

In conclusion, I believe that while similarities among nations bring huge advantages globally to each country economically and politically but the existence of some disadvantages is worth estimated.
