Hi all,
What does it mean counting one's bullets? It's in the acknowledgement part of a book like this:

...and to Natan, for always counting my bullets.

I did a web search for the idiom 'counting ones bullets' and got 0 responses. I've never seen that particular expression before. My guess, based on the little context provided is the speaker is saying "...and to Natan, for always watching my back."

My guess is that it means nothing to the general public. It's a private joke between the author and Natan. Perhaps the two of them used that expression with each other in their personal communications and developed their own meaning for it.
