What does it mean counting one's bullets? It's in the acknowledgement part of a book like this:

I did a web search for the idiom 'counting ones bullets' and got 0 responses. I've never seen that particular expression before. My guess, based on the little context provided is the speaker is saying "...and to Natan, for always watching my back."
