Counting number of objects

Hi,

If I wanted to buy lots of soccer balls for training and now I am at the front of a sales person in a sport shop and said "Can I have soccer balls?". "Yes, how many soccer balls do you need?" said the sales person.

In this situation, I think I have a couple of options for the answer:

"Ten please.", "Ten soccer balls please".

My question is this: is that poosible to say "Ten numbers please"? Although I've never heard of it I'm just curious. Becuase my language has some kind of THAT thing I can't explain.

Thanks

Ten soccer *****/ten of ( anything) would not be regarded as 'a lot'. If I wanted to buy (lots of) some soccer *****: Suppose I want to buy some soccer ***** for training: you don't need to say this - you don't need to state WHY or FOR WHAT PURPOSE you are buying the ***** - that is your business: the issue is, you wish to buy some soccer *****. " Is that right?

  • Yes.
  • If you are asking, "Is it OK to say, "Ten number/numbers of *****"; or "Twenty number/numbers of bottles of beer", then no:.

Is it possible to say, "Ten numbers?"

Yes.
"I've written ten numbers on the board. Fine the lowest common denominator."
