Is there such a word in legal English as 'counterappellant'? This refers to the prosecutor who also appeal the decision of a lower court. So, first someone is sentenced in a court of first instance and is unhappy with the verdict and files an appeal. The prosecutor then files a 'counterappeal' i.e. the prosecutor's reasoning for why the appellant's appeal is without merit.
