Countable or Uncountable?

Was just wondering, I've seen the word "accomodations" so many times, like in adverts for tours, trips, hotels, and what-not. But according to my book, it shouldn't be written with an "s". So the advert should read "Accomodation is available" instead of "Accomodations are available". Or are both acceptable in this day and age? Cheers!

Both acceptable, but with two 'm's as well as two 'c's. I think that at least in AmE the countable plural form is more usual.

Anonymous,

My dictionary has this for 'accommodation' [with my highlight added]:

1 : something supplied for convenience or to satisfy a need: as a : lodging, food, and services or traveling space and related services -- usually used in plural<tourist accommodations on the boat> <overnight accommodations>
