Countable and Uncountable Nouns

Why in English the words "morning," "afternoon," and "evening" are all countable nouns, but not the word "dusk"? What if I really need to count it in doing translation?

I don't know-- perhaps because it is not so clearly defined by time of day (dusk-- and dawn-- can come at widely different times between summer and winter in the northern latitudes). I think you can certainly use it countably: Every dusk, I watched the Barn Owl emerge from his lair.
