Grammar

count off X count of (steps)

Hello,

Could anyone please help me settle this?

Pedometers normally clip onto a belt or slip into a pocket and keep count of/count off steps by measuring sudden movement.

Do both options fit in the sentence?
Thanks in advance
L.

Thanks, Grammar Geek. The other version is incorrect, then?

No, I think either "keep count of" or "count off" would work. Mine is just an alternative.
