counselors/counsellors/councilors

Talking things over with someone, listening to their problems, helping to find solutions and supporting them through the bad times is what counseling is all about. Families and frinds often take on the counseling roles for each other. But sometimes the problems are within the family and it is hard to get the help that you may need. Thus, it is important for us to know what kinds of counselors/counsellors/councillors we can consult.

Which one of the three bolded words fits in the above? And what are the basic differences among them? Thanks.

The first best fits your text. The second is the British English spelling (then you'd need to change the spelling of "counseling" to counselling"). The third refers to a member of a council.
