Couldn't help/stop oneself laughing?

Please help me to check my exercise below.

I wouldn't choose any of the presented options. I think the sentence is poorly written and it should be "Andrew couldn't help/stop laughting".

What is the purpose to create such confusing exercises? If you put synonyms as answers to choose from, then the result that you can achieve is an unwanted one of shaking the student's self-confidence. There are exercises which really develop student's skills and instill self-confidence in them and, sorry to say, there are some which are like linguistic traps to fall into.
