could/can with context

What's the difference here -

Talking to a girl at the bar. She say:

I couldn't careless what you think.

VS

I could careless what you think.

VS

I can't careless what you think.

VS

I can careless what you think.

Are all four the same and what's the difference?

Top answer

bebop I couldn't care less what you think. That is the natural one in BrE - though note that that I have split 'careless' into the correct two word. The others don't work.

Why does only couldn't care less work?

Don't the other sentences mean the same thing?

You would benefit from reading the article here http://grammarist.com/usage/could-care-less/ "Could care less" does not make sense because it is contradictory.
