Could you tell me which word to use in these few sentences please

Could you help me with these please?

I'll have a drink while I wait./I'm waiting.
She's learnt to be a mom over the years./as the years went by.
You have to let it simmer for longer than the stated time/for longer than stated.
Can you overtake a car on/from the right hand side?
