Could you simplify the meaning of the 'ing' forms of the verbs?

CalifJim

Just because one website has mentioned four possibilities, it doesn't mean that these are the only possibilities.

roky0071You might handle your little sister's bicycle accident like a pro, cleaning her up, sticking bandages on her knees, and handing her a lollipop.

Nevertheless, this sentence is probably closest to the conditional case mentioned on that website.

If you wanted to handle your little sister's bicycle accident like a pro (a professional), you would clean her up, stick bandages on her knees, and hand her a lollipop.

This is like one of the other examples we have already looked up.

The actions of "cleaning her up", "sticking bandages on her knees", and "handing her a lollipop" are the constituent parts of the overall action of "handling the accident like a pro".

Do you remember the dog tracking the rabbit? (Imagine a dog tracking a rabbit, sniffing the ground and following its scent.)

"Sniffing the ground" and "following the scent of the rabbit" are the constituent parts of the overall action of "tracking a rabbit".

'You might handle your little sister's bicycle accident like a pro, cleaning her up, sticking bandages on her knees, and handing her a lollipop'

Here in the above 'cleaning her','sticking bandages' and 'handing her a lollipop' these all happen at the same time for example you given in the above post 'Sniffing the ground' and 'following the scent of the rabbit' or happen once after another? I am confused. please explain it.

Please don't put your question inside the material you're quoting. It's hard to know where the quote ends and your question begins. roky0071 Here in the above 'cleaning her','sticking bandages' and 'handing her a lollipop' these all happen at the same time for example you given in the above post 'Sniffing the ground' and 'following the scent of the rabbit' or happen once after another?

  • You have to take a little more initiative to solve some of these problems on your own.
