Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Nowadays, we are surrounded by tons of advertisement campaigns by companies that want to boost the sale of their products. Some people believe that the advertisements have an enormous impact on our demand. I partly agree with this statement but I do not think that all people will choose to buy unwanted products just because of some advertises they see on TV.
On one hand, the advertisements might entice and temp people to buy things that they might not want. There are tons of ads that we encounter in our daily life, and they could appear in many forms, such as small ads, radio spot, billboard or product placement. All these types of ads could affect our buying behaviors. For example, Apple always introduce new models of the IPhone every year but it actually does not have any technological breakthrough. However, people still decide to buy it due to the marketing campaigns.
On the other hand, not all people are affected by the advertisements. There are many people that only buy things for their needs. And there are lots of reasons that affect the choices of customers. For example, people who have demands to buy a new car could get attracted to automotive advertisements. And they will decide to buy it only if the new car model meets all the needs of the buyer. Furthermore, a product with new features could improve quality of life of the customers in one way or another. For example, a car with an enhanced safety feature could reduce the rate of mortality in accidents.
In conclusion, I agree that the advertisements do have influences to our buying behaviors but not all advertisements are bad and most of the things we buy are for our own needs.
