Nowadays, the enjoyment seems to become the priority of the celebration of traditional festival, and there is a belief that people have forgot the true meaning of these festival. In my opinion, I partly agree with this view. However, I believe that people still understand the purposes and the original meaning of these celebration.
On one hand, the celebration of traditional or religious festival in these days have become the chance for people to relax and enjoy themselves. During the festival time, most of people spend time in shopping, drinking or camping because the festival period is the rarest chance of the year that they have a long day-off, so people tent to make the most of it. Furthermore, due to the increase in shopping demand, the festival period is also a chance for retailers and manufacturer to maximize their profits by introducing discount programs or giving out promotional gadgets to attract customers.
On the other hand, the traditional meaning of all the festivals are still preserved. For example, the curriculum in school educates children the reason of celebrating traditional and religious festival to instill in them the cultural value. Moreover, parents also play a vital role in teaching their children about the celebration. For instance, in my country – Viet Nam, besides all the entertainment activities, we still gather together to help preparing for our Tet festival which is one of the biggest and the most important traditional festival in our country. At this time, all family members share their daily life stories and the knowledge which was handed down by the ancestor to the children.
In conclusion, I agree that people nowadays see the traditional festival as a chance to enjoy themselves but I do believe that they still understand the meaning behind all these celebrations.
