The picture illustrates the growth of Chorleywood village from 1886 to 1994.
Overall, there were an upward trend in the number of residential areas. On the other hand, significant changes were made in the development of infrastructure. These included the construction of a new expressway and railway.
From 1868 to 1883, the village covered a small area next to one of the main roads in the west. Chorleywood park and Golf course were located in the center. Between 1883 and 1922, the village expanded it housing estate along side of the main road to the south. In 1909, a new railway road crossing this area from east to west was constructed. The expansion of Chorleywood village continued to the south-western corner of the map until 1970. In the same year, a new expressway running from south to north was built to the east of the village. From 1970 to 1994, further development of the village took place around the motorway intersection with the main road and the railway.
