Essay & Composition Writing

Could you please read my essay and offer suggestions?

When I was nine, I attended a camp for three days and it was the first summer camp I had ever attended. I was always a typical homesick camper until I was older. I didn't want to be so silly but I just couldn't help crying. I seldom felt like doing anything on the first day while arriving at the campsite. My couselor used to come up to me and offer to help the next day when I still can't enjoy working with other campers. After I told them about being homesick, they always showed their understanding and tried to comfort me. They never worried about spending too much time making me feel better. When it's time to build the campfire, I just wish if I could stay for a little longer.

Thanks in advance.
