Could you please help me with these? (IELTS Writing task 2)

1. Are there any other different ways to say “nowadays” and “these days” ?

2. Is “hands-on experience” correct if I want say “practical experience” in that way? If that expression is incorrect, could you please tell me the correct one and more academic expression for “practical experience”.
