Could you please help me with these 5 sentneces?

Could you please help me make these grammatical?

1 Were they expecting us to buy them stuff in exchange for letting us stay in their apartment?
2 I was brought up in a way that If I told my parents I was sick, it was true.
3 It's when you don't want something to happen that it usually does.
4 What cost 10 dollars here cost 20 dollars there./You get for 10 dollars here what you get for 20 there.
5 Children aren't being/getting taught that anymore/ We weren't taught that then.
