In this day and age, there are many means of communication thanks to the development of science and technology. It is argued that direct communication will become behind the times because of the internet and text messaging. I partly agree with this idea because this tendency has both advantages and disadvantages.
On the one hand, communicating via social networking sites is a convenient and simple way, especially for people who have a distance barrier. For example, we could communicate with people all over the world with only a smartphone and the variety of social apps help telecommunication become easier than ever before. In addition, contacting through the internet is time-saving and money-saving, people could send an email with the necessary information, instead of waste time meeting in person for information exchange.
On the other hand, texting and social media are causing the downfall of society’s interpersonal communication. For instance, young people today tend to communicate via the internet and text messaging all the time, which limits their social communication skills and become bad team players. Furthermore, people still meet each other face to face in important or private situations that social media cannot help.
In conclusion, although there are myriad advantages of social networking sites, a meeting is still a special way of communication that nothing can replace.
