There are various positive outcomes this can bring about, one of which is a considerable decrease in crime rates. The senior citizens are less likely to commit crime than adolescents, which is mainly due to the fact that they have already been substantially supported by the government. In order to ensure their welfare, most national authorities provide them with professional services such as healthcare and residential homes. Therefore, they should have no potential motives to become criminals.

However, the serious consequences that result from this trend are of greater significance. An increasing number of the elderly people means a rising amount of money the state has to spend on them. The older people become, the more vulnerable they are to diseases. This results in a heavier burden on national hospitals, whose sources are supplied by the government. As a result, state officials might have to impose higher taxes on working people so as to ensure sustainable provision for old people. This is clearly illustrated in a recent survey carried out in Japan, where senior people accounted for the majority of the population. It showed that workers of this country had to pay much for taxes and some even were not able to live in comfort anymore.
