Topic: Schools should not force children to learn foreign language. To what extent do you agree with this statement.

My essay:

There is an increasing tendency that schools teach foreign language as a compulsory subject. While this ideal is a worthy aim, I agree that all children should not be forced to do so.

On the one hand, it is vital that learning another language is beneficial in many ways. Firstly, it is the best way to broaden your mind as you could communicate with foreign people, understanding other cultures or simply enjoying a song in another language. As a consequence, you could obviously gain more knowledge and experiences. Secondly, in the era of so-called “flat” world with a bloom of multinational companies, fluency in foreign language could open your opportunities to do business abroad by understanding the norms of business in foreign countries easier or at least ensure your ability of getting a well-paid job. In reality, most companies require a degree in foreign language as a must in the employing criteria.

On the other hand, some people argue that it is not necessary to learn foreign languages. Those who have the opposite ideas may cite that they are only interested in developing their career as a skilled technician such as mechanical technician or construction worker. Thus, this could be a waste of time for them to spend time on learning other languages that they might never use in the future instead of concentrating on improving their practical skill. Apart from this, forcing children to learn foreign language could lead to more pressures on children study loads which has already too much. This also means that they would have less time for free play or have to sarcrify other favorite subjects such as art and craft or dancing. Thus, there definitely lead to the fact that some children feel unsatisfactory with the school’s curriculum.

In conclusion, I agree that school should encourage children to learn foreign languages for their sake in the modern world, however, forcing children to do so is unnecessary.
