The charts compare the figure for students doing research in Australian universities in two specific years, 2001 and 2010. The pie charts give more details about the proportion of international and local students in terms of genders.

Overall, the remarkable portion of research students was generated by local undergraduates throughout the time. However, both of those figures witnessed a strong growth in almost a decade.

In the first year of the survey, about 34,000 Australian people who were studying in their country universities conducted research, while only slightly more than 5,000 of the total 38,849 were international students. According to the pie charts, 87% was provided by local, which was nearly 7 times higher than the number of oversea learners. It is obvious to see that the proportion of men and women for native students was the same, at 43%, whereas in other category, it was only 9% and 4% respectively.

After 9 years, although international students remained to stand at the second position, they were seen to make a big rise by added more than 9,000 people into their research. The increasing trend was also found in 39,000 Australian people conducting research, which were 5,000 higher than the number from the first year. Turning to the pie charts, it seemed like the percentage of the local figures went down by 14%, in contrast with that of international students. Likewise, men and women who were Australian continued the research fell at 39 and 35 respectively, while overseas students witnessed 12% of male and 15% of female. In 2010, the proportion of international female researchers was 3% higher than male.
