Question: Explain how you have strong networking skills, using clear examples of your networking skills, and outline how you hope to use these skills in the future.
Answer:
For me, networking skills are not innate but are honed by endurable efforts, in which understanding, communicating and rapport building skills are very important to build a strong network.
First, understanding others and communicating effectively is essential for building a good relationship. When I left Hatinh province to Hanoi starting my university, I have been isolated with classmates because either my accent is so regional that Northern friends could not understand what I was speaking or there was a gap between my culture and of the classmates. In order to overcome this obstacle, I spent lots of time to practice Hanoi accent to enhance conversational skills, as well as study the Northern culture and try to understand different personalities. Then I step by step clear out the accent difference in conversations with my friends, engage friendly and show genuine interest in my classmate activities. Along with an open and humorous mind, I got closer to my classmate and then also exchanged my province’s culture with them. As a result, after graduating from one of the top business universities in Vietnam, I have already possessed a strong professional network in both private companies and government bodies, which includes many fields such as Marketing, Banking, Finance, Logistic and so on.
Second, good relationship building skills have helped me to establish a strong network. For instance, while I took part in events at MOST and some other agencies, which includes many representatives of S&T provincial departments, universities, research institutions, foreign embassies and many enterprises, I always pay attention to strangers as much as my familiars. Noticing that newcomer always feels isolated, I start a conversation by introducing myself, asking his information without any expectations but friendship. Therefore, he feels easy to share his experience with me, later we keep each other contact and can ask the other any support at any time.
Last but not least, not only when I have a chance to connect with others I can build a relationship, but also when I have not, I even could create the chance. The reason is that I know how to establish a wholly new network by myself thanks to The Social Network management tools. For example, I have administered the Customs Procedure Subject fan-page, whose main purpose is discussing Frequent Questions in the subject’s final examination. The fan-page has reached up to more than 2000 follower within 3 months. As a result, when I need supports from The Social fan-page such as some piece of information, job recruitment, survey questioning, etc, I can ask to help via this fan-page. It’s really cool experience.
With the open-minded for networking, I would like to devote to the master course's alumni network, sharing and learning from people of different cultures, experts of various fields. Along with the professional, social and artificial network built above, I hope to exchange the network with the master course's alumni, either to experience new things or to boost the success of our work.
