Essay & Composition Writing

Could you please check my writing Ielts task 2? Thank you very much.

The older generations tend to have very traditional ideas about how people should live, think and behave. However, some people believe that these ideas are not helpful in preparing younger generations for modern life. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

It is not wrong to think that older generations know how young people should behave, live and think. However, some people argue that these ideas should not be mandatory for younger generations as they have become outdated. For me, I partly agree that younger generations should be able to live their own lives. But at the same time, they can still value the beliefs of older people.

On the one hand, the old values of the elderly are no longer fit in with all aspects of the new generation's lives. Take the Internet as a notable example, unlike in the past, this is what young people use to work, study or entertain now. Moreover, with the development of science and technology, we are basically living in a different world from our grandparents they cannot understand the way things work anymore. And because of that, sometimes their advice is not practical at all.

On the other hand, there are plenty of old experiences, which are still valuable today. For instance, all generations should have a basic knowledge about traditional drugs for healing diseases like lemon, which is the remedy for different health problems. Moreover, some views and values of the elderly are certainly applicable to today's world. Such as always being polite, helpful and remembering to pay respect to older people. These kinds of values should be passed on to many generations because they are basic manners that everyone should have. And by learning from their grandparents' great advice, young people will be able to lead a better life.

In conclusion, the younger generation should be allowed to live their own lives the way they wanted, but that does not mean they should throw away the old generation values. Instead, they can still live independently and learn from the elderly at the same time.
