Fly me to the Moon

My life goal is to create affordable access to outer space where everyone can visit and live on the Moon for good. This goal is important in the future and worth to try and do it. To drive my goal, I believe I should start at University because it has the pool of knowledge and talents. I do lots of research which Universities suit me well and TU Berlin caught my attention and interest. I learn about TU Berlin while reading the biography of Werner von Braun which TU Berlin is his alma mater. It is more interesting when I learn TU Berlin has a Master of Space Engineering which fully thought in English. It makes the TU Berlin is the right place for me.

I have a vision in the future going to outer space is fast and easy as buying an airline ticket and board the flight. Until now, access to space is still far from easy and number of people who can become the Astronaut is limited. Becoming an Astronaut is still the prestige dream of every kid when they grow up. When my dream is achieved, the dream is still prestige but it is no longer exclusive for certain people but everyone. Everykids will think when they grow up, they really can be an Astronaut because they just need to buy the flight ticket. From Africa to Alaska, everyone can be an astronaut and fly to the Moon. This dream is realistic if we have the rocket that can fly us to outer space and we can offer the affordable ticket.

I want to highlight that, I’m not alone in making this dream a reality. ESA is gearing up to construct the Moon Village. To build a permanent post in the Moon, ESA needs a reliable launch vehicle. We want to be ESA partner to help them flying their Astronaut and logistics go and back to the Moon. When I spoke to ESA Director while attending Space Generation Forum2.0 in Vienna, he said ESA is working closely with Arianne Space and currently doing lots of experiment of Moon Village. At the time being, Arianne 6 rocket still not ready to send Astronaut to the Moon and there are lots of experiments to be done. I envision, when ESA is ready to build the Moon Village, we are ready to offer our service too.

I studied about the TU Berlin course program, facilities, alumni track record, research partner and other industry players which located closed to TU Berlin. Based on my finding, TU Berlin has everything I need to move the needle. I have two goals that I want to achieve when I graduated from TU Berlin. I want to create the highest specific impulse (ISP) of rocket engine and find a co-founder of my future start-up. At TU Berlin, I’m optimistic I can achieve these two within two years.

Recently, I visited TU Berlin and have the opportunity to learn more about their program. In their program, I will be learning about space electronics, reaction wheel of satellite, how to release the satellite into the right orbit and space entrepreneurship. They evaluate students through portfolio performance instead of the exam which it is better. The program has 4 semesters but students are allowed to take the 5th semester for final thesis. In spite of that, they also have a sounding rocket team, it is two stages rocket. I plan I want to be active with the rocket team and will be taking the fifth semester because I want to spread the subjects throughout the five semesters. It will provide me enough time to be active with the rocket team and stay focus on my master studies.

TU Berlin has a strong partner like DLR. I plan to apply student placement at DLR Institute of Space Propulsion in Lampoldshaushen, German. I checked their website and they welcome for any students who want to work with them as student placement or we can send the speculative application if we have an interesting project. I want to make the highest specific impulse rocket engine at that institute which I plan to do the final thesis with them as well. With all the facilities and smart people at the DLR, I believe we can work together to build the rocket engine. The rocket engine is crucial as the stepping stone to reach the Moon. When the rocket engine is successful, that is the moment I will start my start-up. Our start-up will bring the rocket development further together with DLR.

I want to follow the footstep of Werner von Braun. He started his journey at TU Berlin and it makes me believe if I follow his footstep, I could achieve the same thing or even better. If he can do it, I can do it too. Life is short, and I choose to spend my life to help everyone to go to the Moon. This journey is challenging and I may face failure. Even I do not succeed, I still proud of it. I never come to German merely to get a job in the space sector but I come with one mission, one objective and one goal which I want to go back to the Moon for good. I have made preparation, financial planning and strategy to hit the target. I will never give up until I make it happen.

All in all, going to the Moon is not about my personal dream but it is about everyone. As time goes on, the human is progressing to make things better. From the time we ride on the horse, now we use a gasoline car, and later we will be using the electric car. Similar to the rocket. Primarily, the rocket is used to transport satellite into orbit, and in the future rocket will be used as everyday transportation to the Moon. How many of us to think that being an Astronaut is really a big dream because it is difficult to be one? This is why our vision is vital. Our success will change how tomorrow is vastly different than today. We will make everyone to get excited about the future.

When I graduated, I will create my own space company. We will progress one step at a time building the rocket. German is good for space start-up because German has a supportive ecosystem. From start-up. We will grow as a full flagship space company like Space X. We will do business with ESA, NASA, and other space industry players. No dream is too big and no dream is impossible. It is possible if we do it with full discipline and dedication. We will build the rocket component by component, put block by block until we succeed. In the nutshell, let’s go back to the moon for good together!
