Could you help to explain these sentences...

1.Ever major industry was once a growth industry. But some that are now riding a wave of growth enthusiasm are very much in the shadow of decline.

The first part.
- Every industry was once a growth industry.
does it mean > Every industry has been growth before..

The second part .
-But some that are now riding a wave of growth enthusiasm are very much in the shadow of decline.
does it mean > they are taking risk to do their business and also worry it of decline form previous experiences.

And also how does it combine these two sentence together. it is a bit confuse to me....

-But some that are now riding a wave of growth enthusiasm are very much in the shadow of decline.

Does it have same sentence format like this..?
-But some that are now riding a wave of growth enthusiasm and it also are very much in the shadow of decline.
