Contrary to what many people think, in Italy, students go on strike every year. This is not the case in other countries, where student strikes are unthinkable or a thing of the past. Italian students protest mainly against national issues but also against local issues. Their common forms of protest include street demonstrations, school occupation, a number of meetings, and temporary school management. Most students are not opposed to strikes, though some students are more skeptical and cynical than others. One student in favor of strikes stressed the importance of expressing one’s feelings. Some of those against them described strikers as troublemakers, would-be politicians, and someone being taken advantage of by outside forces.
