Could you help me understand this?

Hi! everyone.
I would be much obliged if someone help me understand this?
These two are from my book-:1-It(Village) is the first unit of human culture and civilization. The whole world revolves around this basic center though indirectly. (Couldn't get the coloured part.)
Does the above colored part mean "villages constitute the most important part of the world" but I could not understand how the phrase "though indirectly" changes the meaning of the whole(colored) sentence?
2-So, in ideas, though not much in physical reality, the village is the beginning of development of all organized and civilized world.
I couldn't get the colored part in the above sentence also.
What are the ideas and physical realities the poet is talking about could you only name those ideas and physical realities ?
I would be very grateful.
Thanks!
