Could you help me understand these parts?

I'm wondering the meanings of "only part way" from the article I'll add to this post.
I think, simply "part way" means "at the end of something", but with "only", I can't figure out.

"Every star visible" means "you can see every start"?

I can't figure out the meanings of "taking."
