Could you help me understand the concept below

GPY
roky0071He got his car fixed only to damage it again.

The sequence of events is that he got his car fixed, and then, a short time later, he damaged the car again. The phrasing "only to" emphasises that this was an unwelcome sequence of events. You never want to damage your car, but it is even worse to damage it again just after you have had it fixed.

Can I split the sentence like this 'The car was damaged (by default) again even after he got it fixed.' and is 'damage' here an unintentional event? Now is my concept correct? Please let me know.
