The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries.

The bar chart gives information about the amount of water used for agriculture, industry and households around the world from 1990 to 2000, while the table compares how much water was consumed in Brazil and Congo.

It is noticeable that there was an increase in the amount of water for all 3 purposes over the world, in addition the major quantity of water was consumed in agriculture. Besides, water consumption in Brazil is higher than the figure in Congo.

As can be seen from the bar chart, in 1990 the amount of water used for agriculture stood at nearly 500 km2, with a subsequent increase to 3000 km2 at the end of the period shown. Meanwhile, the figures for industry and households went through a stable phase, hovering at 100km2 from 1990 to 1950. From 1950 onwards, the water used for industry rapidly grew to over 1000km2, while the figure for households rose more slowly to only 300km2.

In 2000, the amount of water used by the population of Brazil and Congo was 176 million and 5.2 million respectively. In addition, water consumption for irrigated land in Brazil was far higher than that in Congo, which were at 26,500 km2 and 100km2 on that order. Similarly, 359 km2 water was used by the average Brazilian, which was 45 times higher than the figure for Congo.
