Essay & Composition Writing

Could you help me correct my Ielts writing task 2, please ? Thank you very much.

In some countries, many more people are choosing to live alone nowadays than in the past. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

These days, living independently has been a habitual lifestyle for many people around the world. In my opinion, this tendency is equally positive and negative and needs to be measured in either way.

On the one hand, the option of living alone brings out some advantages for related-people. First, people who choose to live independently are more likely to be more comfortable with their financial situation, due to the fact that they do not have to pay for anyone except them. Second, living on their own would free them from family pressure or marriage problems, such as taking care of their children, or even unhealthy relationships. A film called “ Marriage Story” is a good example to illustrate this point, when it clearly showed a dark side of belonging with other partners.

On the other hand, not everyone would gravitate towards living alone owing to some reasons. First, having partners in your life may support your mental states. By staying by your side and being a good listener, you would run a lower risk of contracting mental illness. Second, living with someone else may prevent you from unexpected accidents. According to a report, about 30% of mortality came from vapour leaking, which occurred mainly in houses with lonely people.

In conclusion, while living independently would escape people from issues in relationships, sometimes having your trusted one is necessary when it comes to prolonging and safe lives. From my point of view, it depends on our choices of lifestyles, which is the most important factor to consider.
