Could you help me?

Could you confirm whether both of the following sentence are right?
Thank you.

1. I spent several hours looking for my smartphone.
2. Looking for my smartphone, I spent several hours.

Top answer

#1 is fine and natural. I wouldn't call #2 wrong, but it sounds to me odd and unnatural. Note that it would sound more acceptable to say eg Looking for my smartphone, I spent several hours in the park.

Looking for my smartphone, I spent several hours searching high and low, turning over every pillow, looking under every piece of furniture and retracing my steps.
