Could you tell me whether the folllowing sentences sound fine or not?

Shanghai, the biggest port city in China, becomes a second home to many Japanese who get into a panic and trade away their houses in Japan after the severe earthquake hitting Japan last year. These days, they have an eye on new tall buildings in Shanghai as their new houses.

a. When you say "traded away" their houses, do you mean "sold" them. Usually "trade" and "sell" have different meanings in English.
