There is issue with this sentence as to what exactly you want to get across. First issue, Through a life - is unidiomatic. Then "should" and "can not", with the first being positive and the latter negative, don't seem to blend well with the context.

You can say " through life, we experience many ups and downs". But for this sentence, these are syntactically possible:

In our lives, we may get many opportunities to choose which way we want to take.

Through life, we may experience more than one opportunities to choose which direction to take for our future.
