Could you explain to me why "dash" is not suitable for the following sentence?

I think that people 'dash' while cars 'speed'. To me, 'careen' involves involuntary turning. My sentence would be:

The minimus sped out of control, careening through San Francisco's Russian Hill neighborhood, slamming into everything in its path.
