In some countries, marriages are arranged by the parents but in other cases, people choose their own marriage partner.?Discuss both systems.

Marriage is the final step in a couple`s relationship signifying their eternal love for each other. But this was not always the case and still isn`t in many countries.
For those living in the western hemisphere arranged marriage may seem almost barbaric, but it was still practiced in Europe and the US less than a 100 years ago. For the most part this practice was established as a way for dynasties to insure their wealth got passed down through the ages. Partners were chosen not based on their relation between each other, but rather on the wealth that they could inherit. In some cases the first time a groom would see his bride would be at the altar. And even nowadays in many poorer nations this is still considered a norm.
A much more liberal and fair system is the one, where people themselves choose who to marry and spend the rest of their life with. It is hard to argue that those, who chose their own partner will probably be much happier in a relationship and will probably have more success in the long run, but there can be certain problems involved with this way of doing things as well. For example, there would be a possibility that a couple would make the decision too quickly and end up in a divorce simply because they did not take the time to get to know each other better. And finally, it does not exclude the possibility of one of the partners marrying simply to achieve power and wealth.
It is hard to say for sure if one way is better than the other, but we can be sure that neither way of doing things will ever die out.
