Topic: Why children nowadays do not spend as much time reading as children in the past.
In my opinion, children nowadays are no longer interested in reading, they spend less time reading books for several reasons. First of all, the development of the internet has enabled children to get access to more entertainment options. Instead of spending leisure time reading a boring book, children living in modern society are keen on watching TV, playing video games, or surfing the internet. These activities are more interesting than simply reading books, so it can replace books as the main means of entertainment, which explains why many children nowadays give up on reading. The second reason is that young students now lack parental guidance and instructions. Ordinarily, there are many parents too busy with work so they do not have enough time to take children to a bookstore or to guide them more about the benefits of reading books. Hence, children do not have the habit of reading from an early age, and they are less likely to read books in their teenage years. Finally, young students nowadays are not into reading books also because of the influence of surrounding people. People surround them such as their friends or parents often use electronic items to search for information, to study, or work; therefore, students may have the impression that using technology is more trendy than reading books, which seem to be old-fashioned. Because of those reasons, children are more likely not to pay attention to reading books. In conclusion, there are several reasons why children nowadays are not keen on reading books like those in the past.
