Could you explain to me the grammar point used in this sentence, please?

" Happy is the house that shelters a friend !"

Why "happy", an adjective, can be the subject? i thought it should be "happyness".

i wonder if "happy" here is placed there as a subject because the writer used inversion. could you tell me why? thanks in advance.

You are right about Subject-Verb inversion, and that is why 'happy' is NOT the subject. After inversion, the subject follows the verb: the subject is 'house'.
