Could you evaluate this question?

Hi teachers,

Alex got into the front of the lorry, and the driver looked carefully into his face. Do I know you? He asked.
Would this question be appropriate according to the context?
Did the driver examine Alex perfunctorily? Explain your answer.
No, he didn’t. He did it carefully.
Would 'showing little interest or care', be an appropriate paraphrase for 'perfunctorily'?

Thanks in advance.
