The movie begins on the earth. When his brother is killed in a robbery, paraplegic Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a hard mission on the distant world of Pandora. He has to infiltrate the Na’vi people with the use of an ‘avatar’ identity.

I think "take his place" is fine -- the brother was supposed to go on the mission, and when he's killed Jake decides to go instead.

But I can say 'I haven't seen the movie' even though I don't regret that I missed it. Was the 'regret' only as an example above?
