Essay & Composition Writing

Could you correct my writing if there is somethig wrong?

Yesterday my mum visited my home for New Year's Day. She made me and my sister some food and went back her home today.
I translated an interview in English of Franz Ferdinand who is one of my favourite bands. It was very interesting and enjoyable but I was so confused when I came across some strange phrases. I thought I had to try harder for English. I was familiar with almost words in the interview but I couldn't get what it meant exactly. I always do. So I think I have to study harder but i don't. Self-study needs a lot of willpower.

Thank you for the reply! But I have a question.

~Franz Ferdinand which is one of my favourite bands.

Why is "who" wrong? Franz Ferdinand is people so I thought "who" was right, too.

In your text, Franz Ferdinand refers to a music band, not the Archduke Franz Ferdinand who died in 1914!

Aha, doesn't a band count as people?
