Innovated technologies in optics and electronics give optical networks unprece-dented abilities. One of them is the reconfigu-ration capability of network elements, which could be used for balancing the traffic load in a network. Reconfiguration operations in net-work elements take place in real-time. Conse-quently, intensive changes in network element settings might cause failures in the existing connections in a network. For that reason, changes in network element settings should be coordinated in reconfiguration procedures. In this paper, we propose a method for accom-plishing reconfiguration procedures optimally. The method involves a mathematical model and an optimization algorithm. We also pre-sent first computation results of the method.
