Could you comment on this please? Are the highlighted verbs meaningful in this context?

"To explain these findings, they stated that learning progression diminishes if the cognitive requirements of training outweigh the learner's ability to process information."

Yes, they are meaningful. I have a tiny reservation as follows. diminish - means become smaller outweigh - means exceed in weight This seems to me a little like mixing metaphors.

This seems to me a little like mixing metaphors.

Instead of outweigh, I'd consider saying eg outgrow.

Maybe I'm being too picky?
