Could you check the question

Hi teachers,
The context:
‘People never help the police in this country,’ Adam said. ‘People don’t like us.’
‘Why are we policemen, Adam?’
‘It’s a good job,’ Adam said, ‘And the money’s good.’

Are both question appropriate? Is one better than the other?
a) What was Adam's reply as to why he is a policeman?
b) What was Adam's reply concerning why he is a policeman?
He said it was a good job and the money was good.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Philip,
Thanks for you help. I just wanted to know which question was more natural, 'a' or 'b'.

The title of my post should have said, 'Could you check only the questions'.
