Could you check my Letter of Motivation, please?? It is very urgent!!
Dear Sir or Madam, I have recently had my MSc degree in June 2009 from the Technical University of Istanbul, Turkey. I would like to submit my candidature for PhD in molecular medicine in the Institute for XYZ. With a Bachelor's in Molecular Biology & Genetics and an MSc in Molecular Biology-Genetics & Biotechnology, I expect that making PhD in your institute will contribute enormously to my career plans. I also believe that I would be a valuable addition to your group. My interest in science dates back to my years in high school, where I was in science class and predominantly taught physics, chemistry and biology. When I graduated from high school in 2003, I got a high score from the university entrance examination (ÖSS) in Turkey. With this score, I chose and was admitted to the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the Science Faculty of Istanbul University (IU), one of the best and biggest universities in my country. I must mention that Molecular Biology and Genetics departments of the universities in my country accept students with high scores. There I attended basic lectures and laboratories of molecular biology and genetics. In addition, I further improved my laboratory practice during the two traineeships in the summer of 2006 in the Medical Biology Department of Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine, IU and in the summer of 2007 in the Department of Genetics, Research Institute of Experimental Medicine, IU, where I familiarized with the subjects of breast cancer and acute myeloid leucemia, and with the techniques of PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, DNA isolation from human blood, and cell counting in human blood. I pursued my scientific career by admission from the Molecular Biology-Genetics and Biotechnology MSc Program of the Science Institute of Istanbul Technical University (ITU), where I improved my theoretical knowledge by taking advanced courses and my practice by performing an about 11 month-lasting MSc thesis study. With this study, I excelled in quantification of gene expression, specifically in qRT-PCR and qReal-Time PCR techniques. I investigated effects of renal ischemia-reperfusion on the expression of two genes in total RNA samples of rat kidney tissues by using these techniques. This study also helped me to improve my personal skills of reading scientific papers and working in laboratory independently. I chose this study, because it was the most suitable study for my career aims that I can choose at that time. Focusing on human health, my research interests include common human diseases such as diabetes; hereditary disorders; inflammatory diseases; neurologic disorders; cancer; and drug/vaccine development. I want to understand the underlying genetic and molecular mechanisms of such human diseases and develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Thus, I want to contribute to the health of humanity that is suffering from this wide range of diseases nowadays. This idea really excites and encourages me for making PhD. I want to excel in molecular medicine by making my PhD in your excellent institute. When I saw your announcement in internet, I thought that XYZ was the right place at where I need to make my PhD. In addition, personal characteristics of perseverance and diligence will sustain me in the XYZ as well. Being born in a rural area of Samsun, I started my independent life in 2003, at the age of 18, when I moved to Istanbul to attend the Istanbul University. The new life in the metropolis gave me experience in adapting myself to a new environment. So, I believe that this experience will definitely support me in adapting to a new environment in Finland. I am confident that background would serve me well on your department. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss my qualifications and the PhD position in more detail. Thank you very much for your consideration. Yours Sincerely,
